Penalty Rates
Long Shifts
Should a crew person be given a 30 minute break and the shift extends between 10 hours and 12 hours worked , 1.5 times is charged for the time between those hours. Double time is charged for hours beyond 12 hours (30 minute meal breaks are not billed for).
Should a crew person not be given a break and the shift extends between 8 hours and 10 hours, 1.5 times is charged for the time between those hours. Double time is charged for hours beyond 10 hours.
Public Holidays
Public Holidays and the 24th and 31st December are charged 2x (i.e. double) of the standard rate (which is rate Rate A). No long shift penalties apply on these days.
Other Rates
If a crew person has to transport themselves from one site to another during a shift (meaning transport between sites is not provided), a site change fee of $38 + GST is charged. This is to help the crew with fuel and parking expenses that may be incurred.
We charge in 30 minute blocks. If a shift finishes within 10 minutes past a 30 minute block, it gets rounded down. If a shift ends past 11 minutes in a 30 minute block, it gets rounded up.
Example:
A shift length of 4 hours and 40 minutes will be charge at 4 hours and 30 minutes. A shift length of 4 hours and 45 minutes will be charged at 5 hours.
Long Shifts That Are Much Shorter Than Booked
Should a very long shift end much earlier than booked, 75% of the shift length will be charged for.
Example:
Should a shift booked for 8 hours end after 4 hours, 75% of the time booked will be charge. In this case 8 hours x 0.75 = 6 hours. So 6 hours will be billed.
Cancellation Charges
If a shift is cancelled 16 hours or less before the start time, the shift will be charged for. If the shift is a very long one, the 75% rule applies.
